Instagram is the newest health education front of Escola de Pacientes: short videos and images based on scientific evidence, produced by UnB students with the support of artificial intelligence, to bring reliable health information to the public.
THE PROJECT
The profile is the product of the outreach project "Lights, Camera, Health: short videos and evidence-based images for digital education on Instagram with the support of artificial intelligence", of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Brasília (code PJ614-2026), running from April to December 2026 with funding from the PIBEX 2026 call.
The initiative integrates teaching, research, and outreach by involving students in translating scientific knowledge into language accessible to the public. Linked to the course FMD0015, the project promotes student training in science communication and educational audiovisual production.
WHAT WE DO
Students work across the whole content production cycle:
- Diagnosis of health demands relevant to the UnB community and the Federal District
- Searching for and synthesizing scientific evidence to support each piece of content
- Writing short scripts and choosing the format (reels, explainer video, carousel, or informative image)
- Production, recording, and editing of videos and visual materials
- Use of artificial intelligence as support for organizing ideas, adjusting language, captions, and accessibility — always with human validation and faculty supervision
- Analysis of the platform's reach and engagement metrics
WHY IT MATTERS
Health misinformation on social media is a growing challenge. The project responds to it by publishing reliable content, promoting health literacy, and encouraging self-care practices. By linking academic output, student training, and social impact, it strengthens university outreach as a space for dialogue between the university and society. The estimated audience is more than 10,000 people, nationwide.
The project is aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals: 3 (Good Health and Well-being), 4 (Quality Education), 5 (Gender Equality), 10 (Reduced Inequalities), and 16 (Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions).
