Simulations in numbers

Since 2016 Escola de Pacientes has trained clinical consultations with a simulated patient. This page publishes what that practice has accumulated, in open numbers.

The numbers

3.226

simulated consultations since 2016

Of this total, 2,975 come from the historical base, compiled on 18/08/2026 — printed simulations, simulations in forms, and in earlier assistants. SimulaPacientes contributes 251.

What was left out, and how much

Small subsets are not published. These blocks hid cells:

How these numbers are compiled

Aggregate of the Escola de Pacientes' clinical simulations with digital patients. Each cell's denominator is the number of SIMULATIONS, never of students: a pair who consult together counts once. Cells with fewer than 10 simulations are suppressed, and when suppressing a single cell would allow it to be deduced by subtraction, a second one is suppressed along with it. Time appears only by month. No class code, teaching unit, session identifier, or account identifier crosses this boundary. Every simulation conducted by a student counts, including those of someone who connected their own AI instead of using a School code: they conducted the whole consultation and were assessed by the same rubric, and which quota the call came from is a matter of cost, not of activity. Team rehearsals, which are classes marked as rehearsal, are left out. The training block carries only quantity — how many simulations per ICPC-2 chapter and per case —, with no scores at all, and obeys the same threshold. The archive and the bibliography are nobody's observation and come out in full, with one caveat: the case title hides the diagnosis on purpose, so the reference list says in how many cases each document is used, never in which.

How much was practiced, and in what

This part counts quantity, and only that. How many simulation rounds were done, in which ICPC-2 chapter, and with which digital patient — no score, no coverage, no one's performance. Performance numbers are in the tables above; here it is the volume of practice.

Rounds per ICPC-2 chapter

Which subject was practiced. Quantity only — this part publishes no score or coverage.

The archive and the bibliography

Each digital patient has a rubric: the list of what is expected of a well-conducted consultation in that case, item by item, with the document that supports each item. The feedback is built against it — and it is what makes the simulation formative assessment rather than a chat with a robot.

The title hides the diagnosis on purpose. "Fever and body aches for two days" does not say which disease it is because finding out is the student's task. That is why this page publishes the title, the chapter, and the size of each case's rubric — and the bibliography says in how many simulations each document is used, never in which.

The cases in the archive

26 simulations published. The title is what the student sees when choosing: it hides the diagnosis on purpose, because finding out is the task.

The rubric's bibliography

Each required item rests on a document, and the School's rule is that the one who awards points is a Brazilian institution. The order is that of the review queue: the more items depend on a document, the more its new edition calls for rereading. Another 97 items rest on the School's own methodological standard, which is not external bibliography and so does not appear in the list.

An item may cite two documents and counts in both — if either changes, that item needs to be reread. That is why the items column adds up to more than the archive total. The "Cases" column says in how many simulations the document is used, not in which: the document–simulation pair would give away the diagnosis the title hides.

What these numbers are, and what they are not

They are aggregated. Each row gathers many simulations, and none of them can be reconstructed from here. The denominator is always the number of simulations, never of students: a pair who see patients together counts once.

Small subsets are not published. When a subset has fewer than ten simulations, the percentage disappears from the table and so does the number of simulations that make it up — because "suppressed, 3 simulations" would already say too much about a small group. And when hiding a single subset would allow it to be deduced by subtraction, a second one is hidden along with it.

Time appears only by month. Day and hour, in a class that simulates on Tuesday night, would say who was in the room.

No class, group, or pair code crosses this page. No session identifier, no account, no consultation transcript.

Where they come from

The historical base was compiled on August 18, 2026 and gathers what the School recorded before SimulaPacientes: printed simulations, simulations in forms, and in earlier chat assistants. It no longer changes.

What comes next belongs to SimulaPacientes, the School's digital patient hub, and is updated automatically.

Questions this page does not answer

Who saw the patient, exactly when, from which class, with which individual score. None of this is published, and not by editorial choice: the aggregation that produces this page does not receive those fields.

Neither what the diagnosis of each simulation is, nor which document supports which case. This is the only omission here that protects no person: it protects the task. A student who arrived at this page knowing the answer before opening the consultation would lose exactly what the simulation exists to train.
